Passage: Titus 1:1–9

Titus 1:1-9 (NASB)

Salutation

Paul, a bond-servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, for the faith of those chosen of God and the knowledge of the truth which is according to godliness, in the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised long ages ago, but at the proper time manifested, even His word, in the proclamation with which I was entrusted according to the commandment of God our Savior,

To Titus, my true child in a common faith: Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.

Qualifications of Elders

For this reason I left you in Crete, that you would set in order what remains and appoint elders in every city as I directed you, namely, if any man is above reproach, the husband of one wife, having children who believe, not accused of dissipation or rebellion. For the overseer must be above reproach as God’s steward, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not addicted to wine, not pugnacious, not fond of sordid gain, but hospitable, loving what is good, sensible, just, devout, self-controlled, holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able both to exhort in sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict.

Personal Concerns

12 When I send Artemas or Tychicus to you, make every effort to come to me at Nicopolis, for I have decided to spend the winter there. Titus 3:12

sound in speech which is beyond reproach, so that the opponent will be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us. Titus 2:8

(Now all the Athenians and the strangers visiting there used to spend their time in nothing other than telling or hearing something new. Acts 17:21

12 [a]instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, Titus 2:12

13 looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, Titus 2:13

The Triumphs of Faith

11 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1

To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. John 10:3

28 and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.  John 10:28

29 My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. John 10:29
